Blake T. Haskell

“Excel in Excellence Award”

Blake T. Haskell

On September 30, 2021, the public safety community lost a mentor to many and a true friend, Blake T. Haskell. Blake epitomized passion, dedication, and a people-centered leadership approach. His vast public safety knowledge, quick wit, sense of humor, and commitment to helping others never went unnoticed. If you were lucky enough to be in Blake’s large circle of friends, you should consider yourself very fortunate.

The On Scene First, “Blake T. Haskell Excel in Excellence Award,” is given to a 9-1-1 professional who exemplifies the extraordinary qualities of its namesake honoree. Blake was not the type to seek acknowledgment or praise for what he did for others; he was often found behind the scenes making others look good. While he would never admit it, his uniquely timed jokes or fun pokes at himself often upstaged his generous, caring, and supportive ways.

Those who knew Blake understood that they could count on him to work tirelessly on many public safety projects if it meant making the 9-1-1 call process, system, and people of this profession better. He knew a lot about a lot; the extensive knowledge from his early career in the telephone service to his work in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), amateur radio, and 9-1-1 communications made him a trustworthy wealth of knowledge.

He was a dear friend of On Scene First and is sorely missed.
